It was an odd experience with the language but we learned to communicate with sign language in the country very well and some very basic host language words.

Why?

Do yourself a huge favor and make sure that your future neighbors don't party 24/7. Also, check ahead for possible renovations in your building, as it will be seriously annoying when you have to get up at 7:30 on a Sunday morning since Hungarians just don't give a s**t.

cheaper alcohol but at exchange semester I drank more than at home, traveling by train extremely ridiculously cheap

Course recommendations

Very disorganized compared to North American standards. Prepare to find out about exams only a week before. Guidelines for essays/papers are very vague!

Although you are told, that there a no rooms for exchange students in the dormitories, it is possible to get one - at least until you found a room in a flat. It is better to use this offer and search for a proper flat when you are already in the country
