“Diverse Community”
Laila E
Italy, Undergraduate
Political Science, 2022
Overall
The professors are highly knowledgeable and they are keen on creating a inclusive classroom environment that every student can feel comfortable with in order to make the course interesting. While the diversity of student nationalities in the university makes it easy for student to learn how to be a global citizen outside of the classroom.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
From what I heard from students living in JCU housing, it was pretty far away from the university (~45 minutes) and was dorm-style living with no visitors permitted unless registered. When I studied abroad, I traveled, often visiting friends in other cities and they came to visit me in Rome. It would've been a pain and costly if they'd had to pay for a place to stay rather than just being able to stay with me. Furthermore, I actually befriended some of my neighbors in the apartment building, a really nice family, and they frequently invited me over. It turned out to be a really nice part of the abroad experience which I would've missed out on in campus housing.

Personal comments
I loved my little apartment. It wasn't the warmest, it wasn't the largest, the shower sucked, but those are just things you adjust to and get over. I loved going grocery shopping and cooking dinner, having a place that felt home-y. I am a pretty go-with-the-flow kind of person though. My 3 roomates, who were all more high maitenence than I am, were constantly complaining.

“Rome is your campus”
Michelle S
Italy, Graduate
Humanities, 2022
Overall
The Master of Arts in art history program at John Cabot is structured as on-site program. Where literally Rome is our campus, learning about ancient history while getting to live in the eternal city is priceless. The workload is Rome and Italy based that provides a great foundation for the art historian.

Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
Italy is great, but very different than the US culturally. I would suggest reading about the culture before visiting, as with any other country. Great food, great sites, colorful personalities and lots to do.

Course recommendations
Be aware that the schedule of courses is not set until courses began. It is important to have flexability in your schedule becaues it will likely be changed several times. Choose several possibilities for courses, as one may easily be canceled after you arrive.

My academic experiences
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with international students
Interaction with local students
Personal comments
I felt that the quality of the business courses were somewhat lower than at home. However, it was nice to have a lighter class load when trying to balance academics with travel and other social activities. I think the balance is ideal, however if one needs good working knowledge in their area of study, classes should have been a bit more rigorous.

Pros
International, in the city center
Cons
Does not help you for careers upon graduating; sometimes you feel like just a number.
