English is fluent for me. The GBM program has alot of Int. people and Finnish people who lived out side of Finland for their parents work and have English almost as their second native language (like me). So in the program no problem. Out site the program it is a bit harder, but with a dictonary, some Finnish classes (offered by the uni) and English it is in general no problem out site the uni/program

Learning finnish was a bit of a daunting task as it is not related to any other languages, but international students get to study the language at level 1&2 also as far as you'd like to learn teh language...being there for jsut 5months i got upto stage2. Once you understand the basics its quite easy to communicate with the local students..it is advisable to learn the basics before actually going thereas it makes it much easier when communicating with the locals

It was alright, even though I didn't know Finnish at all. It appeared that most of Finns can speak English so I could use my English everywhere.
