That Japan would be so amazing. Honestly, had the time of my life, ended up coming back often to Japan after KG, later entered in another/better university to learn more Japanese, made great friends, learned a new language and even met my wife which is Japanese. It pretty much completely changed my life.. I would have never thought it would as before going there I knew nothing of Japan, I did not have any interest in it, I just went there to discover something new as I had traveled a lot to other parts of the world but never to Asia.

Go there, not for the academic side, as it is poor, but to discover Japan, learn Japanese by speaking a lot with local people (do not spend your time with the other exchange student, you will regret it eventually), the only classes actually worth paying attention are Japanese classes as they will help you improve, and yea, just make sure you will have lot of money before going there as Japan is awesome if you have money as you will be able to travel a lot, eat out, party, etc.. But if you are poor as some students I knew, it will really affect your experience as you will not be able to do much besides going to school and hanging out with your friends. Also, if you have a girlfriend back home, forget about her as you will be missing on a lot..!

Go for it, stay at least 2 semesters as time goes by too fast and if I had stayed only one semester, which is basically just the time to get used to your surroundings, my experience would have been very different. Find an apartment as soon as possible as the dorms are a prison. Make sure your will have lots of money as you need it to travel, party, basically enjoy yourself. Do not take university too serious as the level is poor, even compared to Japanese standards, it is basically seen as a university for rich stupid people as the fees are really expensive but the level low. Just concentrate in improving your Japanese, so spend your time with Japanese, not with other foreigners. Also, be respectful of Japanese culture and manners..do not be the annoying stupid foreigner talking too loud in the train, throwing your trash everywhere, etc.. I hate them when I see that. Anyway, enough said, be ready to be mind blown ;)

I personally loved my experiece at Kansai Gaidai. Be wary of homestay...even if you desire to increase your language ability, you may get a family that is fluent in English. If you are interested in the international experience/exposure, want to develop interpersonal/intercultural friendships, desire (relative) freedom, and want an unrivaled study abroad experience, I would suggest the dorms over homestay (I personally had a jaded experience with homestay...after a nightmarish 3 days, I moved out back into the dorms)

I wish I had known about the poor access to internet. This made my life very difficult, as the internet is my main (cheap) means of communication. Despite being in an advanced country, most Japanese host families did not have the internet, and the dorms were extremely restrictive with it.

You should join one of the university clubs to get to know Japanese students. The speaking partner program was not very effective, as you may get paired up with someone you have nothing in common with (as happened to me).

Gaidai likes to use its international students as walking advertisements for the university. Half the students that come here come just to party and don't really care about learning Japanese, or anything else for that matter.

If you wanna do nothing but party, there's already a million of you there. If you wanna come here to actually study, you should have a good time, but you gotta make an effort to get out and learn Japanese, 'cause it can be kinda hard to avoid 400+ international students at times.

The language instruction is good, though lacking some depth, and the classes offered are interesting, though there is a lack of variety. As far as leisure time goes, there's plenty to do, but not necessarily in Hirakata. While the housing situation leaves some things to be desired, the accomodations are quite nice, spacious, and well-maintained. The administration doesn't know what they're doing half the time, but that shouldn't really be a problem as you don't really need to interact with them that much. All in all a good time.

That the Japanese classes was this hard and took a great amount of efforts. Otherwise the University's pre departure information reveales most of the things you need to know.

Go to Kansai Gaidai if you want to meet a lot of new friends from all around the world, wants to study hard and have a full schedule from the day you arrive untill the day you leave. If you want to experience a highly organized school and society is very well organized and society. Overall I believe that everyone can make their time in Osaka unforgetable aslong as you have the right attitude.

Try to visit as many places you can, from the very northern parts down to the south. Go to the nearby cities, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe as often as you can. Afterwards I feel like I maybe spent a little to much time studying. I wish that I gave the culture more space. You should go to a lot of temples and a lot of cultural seeings, beautiful. Visit Hiroshima, terrible but very meaningful and interesting. Try to take all opportunities to meet local inhabitants. Thats the best way to learn the culture and how to get around. And last but not least, Have fun, be openminded! Put on your social charm, it will come back to you with a lot of friend from all around the world.

Famous for great scholarship system

Kansai Gaidai is known for abundant scholarship for only a few students who study very hard and have enough English skill. Therefore, I recommend students who have motivation to study English but not money to enroll the university.
There are not only regular students but also exchange students, so you can meet a lot of foreign people even in campus.
However, only a few students study very hard to improve their ability, so it is important to keep motivation by yourself or make similar types of friends .
