Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
I think that staying in a host family gives you a lot of advantages, especially if you go to a country such as Japan, where there are lots of cultural differences compared to Europe. Had I not stayed in a host family, I wouldn't have learned as much Japanese as I did in the same time period.

Personal comments
The accomodation at the Keio Business School were also great, and most of my friends stayed there. But still, I recommend others to try to find a host family, as it gives you a key to the Japanese culture.

I love hanging out in Harajuku, Aoyama, Shibuya and Shimo-Kita for nightlife. When it comes to travel, I highly recommend Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.

I wish I had known...
As I had already visited Tokyo for a three weeks a year prior to my studies there, I felt that I was well prepared.

Personal recommendation
Keio Business School is the Top MBA school in Japan. It is very small, though, so don't expect anything big and fancy (such as Columbia Business School in NYC). The courses are good, but the workload was a bit less than expected. My overall evaluation is that it was a great experience and a perfect way to learn more about the japanese business environment and practice.

Final comments
Not many people speak English, so it is very helpful to learn basic phrases etc before you go to Tokyo. People are very polite and helpful, so if you get them to understand what you are looking for etc they will always help you find it, even if it requires a lot of effort from them.

Not many ATMs accept foreign VISA cards. Look for Citibanks ATMs - they accept them!

For me languages is a great interest. Especially if I choose to stay in a country for a longer time, I really like to learn to speak the local language. Japanese was therefore a great challenge, since it is so different from our European languages. This fact merely made it more tempting...
