Student life

Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment

LSE is not a school for the sports-type. It's a very academic school, and LSE students tend to be very active in politics, both on and off campus. It's a school for activists, really. There are certainly a wealth of sport opportunities, but these are generally outweighed by the wealth of student societies devoted to international relations, the UN, global development issues, et al. World leaders are constantly dropping by, and there are numerous lectures and speeches given by major academics. Add to that London nightlife, and you will have a blast - but there's not a huge campus environment (outside Houghton Street). LSE is an urban university.

Academic
Course recommendations
I would not consider the work here especially rigourous. Classes for first years are not taken very seriously but second and third year classes are more competitive.

Better access to teachers, please. Let course work shoulder the burden of the final grade instead of 100% weight on final exam.

Personal comments
LSE doesn't offer any accommodation.
There is an accommodation office helping students finding a solution though. It is located in the university and operates every day. It is connected to the London Accommodation network realized by the University of London. Refer to LSE site to learn more!

London is a very expensive place to live. Halls are affordable and also make it easier to get to know other students, etc. My hall of residence is also very central and there is a good mix of students from different countries.

“Should the government help or not?”
Calan M
United Kingdom,
Economics, 2022
Overall
I loved studying Economics at LSE. I was able to develop an accumen for complex models and consisted of very mathematical fundamentals, i.e. regression analysis. The modules also provided a holistic view of things, and allowed us to form our own conclusions, i.e. should the government intervene in certain markets? There were also multiple societies on campus that gave the opportunity to dig deeper into your interests, i.e. LSE Baking Society, LSE Cricket & Football Society and the most applicable society.... LSE Business and Investment Group.

Careers
No LSE surprisingly did not support students that much when it came to career advice. The best advice I got was via networking and connecting with alumni.
