The nations in Lund are open for every student and are the only clubs were you can drink for a normal price (Sweden has high taxes on alcohol, so the cafes are very expensive). A lot of activities are organised by and for students, and there are too many to give examples!!

due to the fact that Swedes speak (almost) perfectly English and like to speak English, the need to learn the local language was not too high! So my swedish stayed on a rather moderate level; however my English improved much (which was my intention before going to Sweden)

It would enable students acquire more skill if they are incouraged to be involved in debating, discussions and similar activities out of class.

All the nations are a must for students in Lund. For cafes I would also recommend the nations cafes, and a lot of students go to Arimans for coffee. I greatly recommend Stortorget for cafes. One of my favourite spots is the botanical garden, cannot be missed in spring!

I enhanced my English almost unbelievably. Being fluent after ten months--even having got my own "Swedish English" accent! Concerning the local language Swedish, unfortunately almost all Swedish students preferred to speak English in the presence of foreign students.
