I am a very talkative person and you have to be to improve your language if you stay in England, because the majority of English people are quite reserved. I did two courses at a local language college what helped me a lot to improve my level of English. I recommend this to anyone who has enough time and motivation to do this.

At my experience in Manchester I have improved my language knowledge. But it was difficult to me to understand the accent spoken in Manchester area. Except that I did not have any problems understanding other people.

I am spanish speaker and when I went to Manchester I knew how to communicate but in a basic way. After my exchange I achieved a higher level that allows me to understand and talk better than before.

I never had any problems expressing what I wanted to say, but naturally, my English improved loads during my stay in Manchester.
As I had never been to the Northern part of England before, I had to get used to the Northern accent. I liked it a lot, and in the end, you start picking up the accent, too.

You get used quite quickly to the British English, the most important thing is to meet with a lot of British people, watch local TV and especially listen to the radio.

Were surprised by the variety of accent. Those from Birmingham and Liverpool were hard to comprehend. Had a really hard time to communicate with.
