I wish I had known...
That people here are really rude, have never met so many rude people in so little time before. And that my course is feels so much like high-school.

Most of the brits in my course doesn't seem to have much problem with the school, but they it's their first year so they don't have nothing else to compare with. Most of the international students that are taking a master degree here share the same view as me. But the price for a master here is quite cheap compare to other big cities. I wouldn't recommend to take a master here for international students unless it's important for you to keep the price low. And it's also not that easy for to get to know the brits, specially the local one. Don't recommend it for postgraduates, but maybe for undergraduates. In short, there are better universities.

Great place for young student who like to party all week. You should come here if you are from a small town, because it's not too big or too scary. If you are a snob from big cities than just stay away from this place. Last, Brits here have a funny way to be polite, they like say thanks when getting of the bus but don't like to smile or help at office services. Only those brits who are over 40 can be witty and have some self-irony.

International students only get in contact with other international students. It was very difficult to know local students.

You should not bring many clothes or duvets etc. You can get cheap clothes and linen, duvets, pillow. Go to ASDA to get your the things you need for your bed. Cheap shops: ASDA, Aldi Quality shops: Sainsbury Shops everywhere: Tesco (normal prices)

Not really. I guess I knew everything I needed to know beforehand. You never know everything. But if you want to get infos on Manchester, there are lots of webpages to check out, and your university coordinator will be able to help you, too.

It's not the best university you could choose for academic reasons. But generally, I liked the university, and it was great to have my Erasmus experience there.

Manchester is well-situated, so if you're into travelling, this is your city - whether you're into short trips (to nearby places like Liverpool or the lakes) or into longer ones up to Scotland, for instance. Get informed about possible train or bus discounts at Piccadilly station or the National Express bus station.

Personal spending habits
The prices for housing are higher than back home in Graz, and I had a worse room in a worse area for more money than back home in Austria. When going to clubs in England, you usually have to pay to get in. Drinks can often be cheap, on student nights especially. However, mind how you get back home. I usually took a cab to get back, Manchester's not safe, so I preferred spending money for cabs rather than being attacked on the streets..

Watch out for flyers to get into the clubs for little money, watch out for announcements in the papers, watch out for offers in the supermarkets! :-)

Housing
Type of housing: private student hall
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because you get more in touch with British people when you live in a shared house and you have a better control over your extra costs (i.e. electricity).

Personal comments
The location and the rooms are great and I am also very lucky with my flatmates. Apart from the fact that we receive a terrible electricity bill every month, the service is quite good and the staff is really friendly.
