I like this school, it is intercultural. Teachers and students are very nice and helpful. The environment is peaceful and the weather is always sunny. We can play piano, and participate sport games. There are singing courses too. I like this university very much.

I wish I had known...
The town is smaller than i expected, and in the weekends if you have no other obligations it can be boring. However there is always something to do, you just have to look for the events!

There is a great deal to do in the area, but there is even more in a couple hours driving distance. Rent a car for a long weekend or a week, and drive down to Santa Fe, Phoenix, or the Grand Canyon. From there on Las Vegas is only a few hours away.

Personal spending habits
Telephone costs went down because i shared the phone with my roommates. Local calls are for free and i had my family call me, so i had no expenses for long distance calls. The apartment i lived in was the cheapest in Las Cruces, and the amount i pay at the moment in Rotterdam does not even come close to what i paid in the US. My social life was a little more costly. You want to experience the most when you are abroad, so i took full advantage of my opportunities.

I was lucky to get an atletic scholarship, but what I have heard was that many scholarship are not used because people just do not apply. I would recommend putting a little effort in filling out the paperwork, because it could result in a partial scholarship.

I wish I had known...
I wish i had known before going there, that without a car you can hardly cope in America, since there is not a well established public transportation system (at least not in Las Cruces)

If you would like to get to another city closeby, you should check the board, because there are some students who would carpool you.

At the beginning, i was not that familarized with the American Accent because i get used to the Hong Kong (UK) english and the Dutch English (Slower). So, at the beginning i was a bit nervious to talk. Later i have more friends, go out together, group meetings, presentation and study together, graduation i built up more confident and then it is no problem for me to communication in everyday life. I also learn spanish there, because the city (Las Cruces) is closed to Mexico, where there are many Mexican speak spanish. They always suprised that i speak a little bit spanish (as i learnt in Holland), so they are nice to me and i gradually like spanish very much!

Personal comments
Acadamic life for international and exchange students seemed to be a little easier than for Americans who sometimes had a fulltime job in addition to afford the tuition. So academic life could at times be not so challenging, however, the level was decent and teachers were very helpful and attentive.
