I had previous knowledge of German, and did improve greatly my spoken skill, however, my written skill did not improved as much as expected, as I could only attend German grammar classes.

It was an intensive experience,hard at the beguining but much better at the end. You learn the importance of communication and is gratifying to develop your skills.

Austria is probably not the best location to learn German. Austrians and Southern Germans speak with a distinct accent that can be difficult to comprehend. As great a city as Salzburg is, I would not choose it again to learn German.

While attending these courses i was also working as aupair across the border. My Germa wasn-t bad as I first arrived, yet I improved it very much both at my host/family-s and at the courses held by the wonderful Professor Baumgartner.

Because Salzburg is a major tourist destination, many locals speak English and even when one tries to speak German, people will respond back in English. At least, this was the case for me because English is my mother tongue and they knew it.
