Because, from my experience at least, the above mentioned categories are more highly priced in my country than at Groningen.

No significant financial surprises. Cost saving-tips concerning food: do eat at the University self-service restaurant, good food, good prices, nice atmoshpere in a new, modern building, made of glass. As for travelling, if you do plan to travel a lot, which I highly reccomend, take advantage of the monthly railway tickets. This should save you a respectable amount of money.

I got a comprehensive information package from the host university well in time, so I think I had all the necessary information beforehand.

I was studying in the faculty of economics and all things went well. Although it seems that there are significant differences between faculties and if you are Erasmus-student etc. Some students from different faculties didn't receive any information beforehand...

The Netherlands is an optimal place to travel anywhere, so remember to travel! My personal experience from local people wasn't so nice. Sometimes they can be quite rude and arrogant. Urban legend tells that Groningers are different from rest of the country. But of course you'll find nice people too. Don't take stress and enjoy your time!

“Research university with a high educational level of the courses”
Claudia N
Germany, Graduate
Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, 2021
Overall
Within the Master's programme of Neuropsychology, I have received a wide range of courses, that prepare me for a career in research as well as the practice as a (clinical) Psychologist. The courses were a mix of research-relevant topics, topics in Neuropsychology, such as Neuropsychological assessment, and general Psychological topics such as Therapy in global mental health. The probably most useful skill acquired during my studies was probably the training in critical thinking, the evaluation of different data and Psychological literature.
During my Bachelor's degree at the same university, I participated in research practice, and practical courses such as Diagnostic skills and assessment, and Dialogue and group skills.
In total my degree qualified me with theoretical and practical skills to work independently as a Psychologist in various fields.

Most of them are only a little bit less than at home (USA). The difference was not terribly noticable, but Groningen is plenty cheaper than Amsterdam, for example. Much better than Amsterdam, too, by the way (no tourists).

Don't expect internet connections (or even phone line connections, for that matter) in the rooms that the housing people give you. You're only option is the school computer labs, unless you're willing to pay for access at an internet cafe closer to your home.
