Great university and lovely city

Overall
I'm a second year International and European Law and although the start of my Bachelors was not great due to covid, the staff members of the University of Groningen managed to provide us with the best support they could provide. They helped us when it came to accommodations, how the city is structured, how to register at the municipality, and much more. The professors in my faculty are very helpful, always have an ear open and have great teaching skills. I really enjoy studying law, especially in the LLB programme, because it teaches us various fields like Comparative Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Administrative Law and Market Regulation and more. The way the programme is constructed enables us to find the perfect match and the sector best suitable for our interests.

Don't expect an easy erasmus in the Netherlands. Courses in Groningen are hard, specially in Law, but it is to say that they are very interesting

You cannot smoke in he cantine since 1 January 2004....Exams at the end of the course when you are leaving are very annoying... you want to enjoy your last days and you have to study hard to pass them. I would prefer exams during the course or papers

There are plenty of nice cafes and pubs in Groningen! Sally O'Briens is a place to go for the exchange students on Mondays. Don't forget to check out De Spiegel and the little Irish Pub opposite the Casino is also definately worth a visit! Many pubs serve really nice (and cheap!) food, check out especially De Kleine Kasteleine and De Pakhuis. Lunch at the Newscafe is a must and don't forget the delicious cakes at Roroo's (both in the new buildings next to the Grotemarkt)... Newscafe also has the best hot chocolade of the town! Check out also the little cafe next to the Martini Church! In the summertime the terraces around Grotemarkt and Poolestraat are the places to go day and night, and don't forget to check out the lake near-by, where you can for example rent a rowing boat or try out sailing.

I was living in an international student house in Haren. The house was ok but there were two people living in one room, so there was practically no privacy at all. The rent was a bit too high (250e/month) compared to the lack of privacy. Otherwise the house was ok; good facilities, electiricity&gas included to the rent etc.
