The Phone and food is a rip, otherwise I was there to have fun and get everything out of it that I could. So I spent a lot of money. Alchol is very expensive be forewarned. The food is weird in the fact that it is almost as expensive to eat in as it is to eat out.

Don't buy books, they are hard to sell and I only used two in a whole year. In Australia you can check them out at the Library. I had Internet banking and never opened an Aussie account and it worked beautifully, also if you need a large amount of cash you can get cash advances off a credit card from the Australian Post with no service fee. Anyways my bank never charged any intrest. I spent about USD$14,000 in 11 months

went out EVERY night... so i definitely spent more than back home. I spent more on accomodation because the location was really good, a nice area, but it was totally worth it. The cost of uni was actually less. I travelled heaps because I love to, but really, Australia is more or less the same price-wise as the states. The plane ticket didn't help any though.

Domestic travel is more expensive because of lack of competition, and lack of advertising of deals! STA travel was very helpful!

Buy as much food at the Victorian market as possible, it's inexpensive, tasty, and a real cultural experience!

Cook your own food. Eating out is expensive. Check out priceline for reasonable cost for daily needs.
