I would recommand to work during the holidays before leaving because you're running quickly out of money once you live there (phone,food,rent,furnitures,...) I would also advice to get informed how you can get a grant for your experience abroad.

The prices in Italy is far lower than in Denmark. Of course I was often given a higher prize because of being a foreigner which really pissed me off. Overall I spent more money in Italy, because there's so many things to see and do...

Avoid touristical cafes and places. Rome is an expensive city, but you can round it. Sitting in a piazza's cafe will most likely cost you a lot, but there are lots of places that charge almost normal prices. The same goes for restaurants and similar places.

the food in Italy is just fabulous first of all..living in the capital city is always going to be more expensive. Rome is such a big place, you have to take buses and trains all the time to arrive at your destination.

Rome as a tourist city is sometimes very expensive. Pasta is cheap but milk products (important for Germans) are very expensive.

If you chose the wrong bar don't wonder about paying 10.000 Lire for a coke! Go to mensa, food is good and cheap there!

Rome in many aspects is as expensive than New York City, surprising many americans when they get here. Tips: do shopping at teh grocery store rather than buying prepared foods at cafes.
