Ziegler's was the hot spot at the time! Zum schwarzen Walfisch had an awesome breakfast starting really early. O'Reilly's was the hang out for a night of talking and flirting. Cafe Journal on haupstrasse was a great place for a tasty lunch or dinner.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The rooms were pretty old and small. The furniture was worse than what I would find at Ikea and the bathrooms needed severe repair.

Personal comments
Housing at this university is definetaly not one of the selling points. The rooms are small, old and the bathrooms and kitchen need repair. The educational experience was out of this world, though!! I would say to anyone planning on going, be prepared for horrible rooms and an awesome time. Concentrate on the positive!

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I wish there had been more emphasis on learning the local language and interacting with the locals rather than only the students. Since English was the common language and we were all from different countries, we tended to speak only English.

Overall
I wish I had known...
That the education was not the very best.

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
I really loved Schiller - HD campus because of its location and the diversity of the student body. Academics are not the most rigorous so plan to go home and go to a graduate school for a more thorough education. Have fun while you're there, travel, meet people and enjoy Europe!!

Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life

Final comments
Take a camera, forget your life at home, try to mingle with the locals (they always know best), learn the language and make a genuine effort to speak it. Enjoy your stay in Europe as it is something you'll never forget! Remember, Germans are lots of fun once you get to know them!! :-)

Academic
Course recommendations
If you're going to Schiller be prepared for a wrldly education and not an academic one. Get the books and study by yourself, but don't count on getting the very best education.
