Alojamiento
Tipo de alojamiento: En el campus
Organizado por: Universidad de intercambio
Si volviera, eligiría: Piso o apartamento
¿Por qué?
Because we all had to share a room with several people (in my room there were 3 people) and I prefer to have some privacy.

The accomodation was quite good, we had our own fridge and cutlery, and a massive kitchen. I quite enjoyed living on campus. Although after 3 months seeing the same faces every day I was happy to go home where I have my own space.

I did extensive research because going to Japan was a life-long dream of mine- I was well prepared. But it is valuable to know that the Katakana is a lifesaver and should be learned well before going to Japan.

Do research on Japan before you go, especially on how to behave because there is a different way of conduct when it comes to socialising. And travel to Beppu in Kyuushu, it's fantastic down there, an onsen-heaven (onsen= famous japanese hotsprings). And don't dare leave Japan before trying shabu-shabu!!

I became good friends with the Japanese RA's and the other 40 some people living in the dorm. The dorm life was pretty good I'd say.

On the second floor, where I stayed, the rooms are very spacious with 2-3 per room. On the 3rd floor there's generally 4 to a room in bunk beds. Since I was on the third floor I was quite happy. Sometimes it can be a little dirty, i.e. hair in the washroom sinks at times which is kinda gross but then again it could be a lot worse. There's a large kitchen with cubbies for non-perishable items and in the fridge you have a bin for your perishables. Overall I'd say if you're not too picky about your space then you'll be fine.

Japan is a relatively expensive place. Another thing is, in the U.S. I live at home so I have few expenses.

My only suprise was how much money I had left when I checked my savings the last week. Then again there's a lot of money I didn't spend on things like traveling far away and such.
You can actually live pretty cheaply if you're smart. If you're on a budget shop at the KyuKyu (99 yen store) you can get everything from produce to school supplies there.

If you take the cultural and business courses as well as the language course, you will have very little time to yourself. You are out in the suburbs of Tokyo, next to some fantastic areas- Shimokitazawa. The university organises a few trips to sites of interests near tokyo.
One problem is that you spend so much time in the classrom with other foreigners, and live and eat with foreigners, that it can be difficult to get to meet manage Japanese students.
