I wish I had known...
I wish I had known more about the society (people) profile in the city. There were obstacles as an international person with the locals. I had experienced constant disagreements with the locals caused by my international status (!). Secondly, there was a huge power of student houses over the campus life and unfortunately , they were not nice enough to accept the internationals. The houses for other internationals were not satisfactory. So I wish I could communicate better my social background.

Personal recommendation
Even if this university is Student oriented with more than enough facilities and equipped with quite satisfactory staff; I would like them to concentrate more for the needs of international community. Being just there is not solving daily problems. And unfortunalety the problems I have faced, were not Daily problems to me. But overall, I can easily say them that, Thanks !

Please make a GOOD investigation about the people you are going to live with. Understand their culture and mentality. Stay low profile and DO NOT THINK THAT your values are applicable here aswell. It is not worth to accept everything that the locals demand for allowing you to their community houses. They are just houses created by bunch of stubborn individuals. Believe me they dont know what they are talking about.As friendship and protection; I had experienced a very much supportive attidute of African American community and Korean Association to overcome the obstacles cuased by the locals. And I am really grateful to them.
Be an outdoor person. Use the facilities of the city (OZARK AREA). The city nature allows you to be more healthy and alive. Go to the rural areas and learn the myth.
As a summary, go there have fun, learn and enjoy. Please note that " the color and the shape represent the uniqueness in life". Therefore, do not be afraid from the ones different than you. Be ALERT for the ones that are similiar to you.

I wish I had known...
I wish I knew that the university in Springfield was the only thing in the city. There was nothing more to see or to do (one small mall). Downtown was quite small.

Personal recommendation
I recommend to find an apartment off campus so that you are more free and it is less expensive as well. Access to sports is very good so take advantage of it! However, you need to have friends that have a car to go to the grocery store.

My travels were the most amazing things during my year in the USA. I liked being in Springfield because it is a small town and it's easy to meet people.

SMSU has a good reputation and I have experienced this. Everything is well organized and the courses especially in finance are at a very high level. You will gain more knowledge by studying at SMSU
