Personal comments
At arriving I knew only two words, and now back in my hometown I teach spanish, so therefore I feel I learned it pretty well. It was an amazing experience, but a hard job as well to learn how to communicate with people from an other culture. Not only the language I had to learn but social and cultural rules and behaviours as well. University helped to et the academic knowledge, while friends and host family to get the rest.

Mi experiencia en la universidad

Overall

My first impression was scary, I arrived in Mazatlan, I was without my luggage, it got lost, and I couldn't hear well, because of the plane, and I was trying to speak spanish to a family of people who didn't know my language, it was difficult. Later, I felt at home with my new family, it was a great feeling to feel loved and as though I belonged.

Bario Antiguo is right down town and offers a wide and diverse selection of clubs, bars, cafes and restarants. My favorite clubs in Bario Antiguo where Don Canteen, and Bar Rio. My favorite area for clubbing, also situated in the richest area in Latin America, San Pedro offer a great range of higher-end clubs and resaurants. All of the resaurants that I have been to were fabulaous, through-out all of Monterrey.

I wish I had known...
I wish I had known about the specific culture of this particular city which is very different from the rest of Mexico in that it is very Americanized.

If you travel it is best to go with many people (ie. rent a van) and go south to experience the rich Mexican culture that is not very present in Monterrey.

I wish I had known...
Exchange and Home Students are pretty young (less than 21-22 y.o) : might be interesting to be in the graduate program even if you have less choice of courses
