Monterrey is an amzing city , with a even better nightlife, however, if you want to get a truly mexican experience, I would reccomend going to Guadalajara.

Make freiends with as many mesicans as you can. Not only will this help you to learn the language, including all the heavily used salng, but you will also be introduced too many mexican foods, customes and traditions.

It's not a very big university, but since there are only a few foreign students, you are very very well welcome by the organisators, the teachers, the students, the families, etc. and it's very good if you want integration and if you want to learn another language.
