I would reccomend looking into the structure of coureses before deciding on a Masters program. For the MSc Development Studies program course work counted for only 20% of the total grade.

There is too much pressure put on students that have to write 80% or 100% exam finals. There needs to be a compulsory course offered on how to relieve exam stress/anxiety and on how to study for these exams.

I never lived in housing provided by SOAS. But I had friends that did. They said the housing was good and it was close to the univeristy but the area (Kings Cross) wasn't very safe.

Pret e Manger was a great little cafe. I would highly reccomend going to see various plays in London. Theater is absolutely fantastic and the quality of acting is incredible. I would also reccomend going to the Tower of London. Make sure you go on the tour! The tour guides are very good.

After the first year of undergraduate studies, during which most students experience 'Halls of Residence', many look to move into flats with the people they've met in their first year. This is without a doubt one of the best ways of dealing with accomodation for the remaining two years.

If you have specific research interests to carry out at this institution, you will find it to be an enriching experience. However, their MA programmes are not exemplary and I believe that, in general, they should be revised.

The library at SOAS is wonderful. Some of the academic staff are wonderful. However, unless you have a scholarship you will have to pay dearly for what is often a mediocre academic experience. This school accepts many overseas students for year long courses, because of the tuition they will bring in. In fact, this is stated very clearly on the acceptence letter! You may in some situations, find yourself just barely tolerated. Regardless, SOAS has much to offer as long as you are very clear as to your specific goals.
