Perhaps you should do more effort finding some field work experience and volunteer work in nearby galleries. Remeber, treat your teachers as your friends. They are actually very kind of helpful!!

Public transport is very expensive. You really must buy a monthly pass or be prepared to walk a great deal. Food is expensive. Telephone and utilities are expensive.

Keep a keen eye on your telephone bill. Shop at open air markets, buy second hand and avoid tourist areas, as everything in these areas is geared towards maximum profit.

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
It was convenient to campus, and the cost was quite reasonable for it's central London location.

It was far superior to other university accomodations in London. The facilities were quite new and kept very clean. Sizes of rooms were decent too.

Personal spending habits
The cost of living in London is very high. This is only worsened by the poor exchange rate for the Candian Dollar (2.5CDN = 1GBP)!

ATMs in London have times where they are closed! It is VERY DIFFICULT to get money from ATMs on Fridays! Get your money in advance! Don't convert or you won't survive! When in Rome live like the Romans. It's probably a good idea to make lunch rather than buying it - that will save you a lot of money. Taking the bus is cheaper than taking the tube - although less convenient.

Course recommendations
I really enjoyed the courses I took at SOAS. Having studied in Economics, I generally focused on development. Region/country-specific courses are great for second and third years
