Nothing! everything was a surprise and it was great that way! i didn't want to arrive with preconceived ideas. I wanted to be ready to accept EVERYTHING there!

The town itself doesn't offer much to do..come ready to make a little effort to meet people and get involved in the university life...if you do, you will love it and may not be able to ever leave the place (that has happened to a lot of the foreign students who've been there!) Watch out! you may be changed!

First, you'd better like hot weather..otherwise don't even go there! it's summer 10 months a year.
Cease any opportunity you get to travel around, spend time with American families.."Southern living" is an experience you shouldn't miss!
Hattiesburg may not be the most exciting town to live in, but you're so close to Florida (3 hours), New Orleans (less than 2 hours), and all those famous places: the Mississippi River, "Gone with the wind" style plantations...
And last but not least: just consider that anything coming up is a great experience that couldn't have had anywhere else! Every spot in the world is unique and worth it!
