Tilburg University really takes care of its exchange students (camp, parties, travels...) mainly via a student organization called ESN. They are making a pretty good job !

That in Holland the weather sucks! and that you can get a depression because of the lack of sun light, it was pretty hard for me to cope with it especially if you come from a country from Latin America. And that the dutch are very, very special people. But they are nice and cultivated, maybe that's why they are so arrogant! But in general, they are nice people.

It's important that if you face up the " cultural shock" you talk about it with someone and you look for some support, it's very hard to face up such a change nevertheless not impossible, it's a question of time and at the end you won't regret of your choice, It's worth it to do!!

Academic
Course recommendations
I took classes with Professor Ype Poortinga. If you are interested in Cross-cultural issues, he is an exceptional professor in this field. The Dutch language class, however, was not very well managed and did not motivate the stuents to learn Dutch.

Housing
Type of housing: Student house accross the street from campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I had a wonderful experience living in Hogeschoollaan (a student house) and I have no complaints. But if I were to go back I would live in an apartment closer to the center to become more immersed in the Dutch culture and lifestyle.

Personal comments
Living in Hogeschoollaan (a student house just next to the university) was the single best part of my experience in Tilburg. It is a mixture of foreign students and Dutch students, with ample space for gathering for dinners, parties, etc. It was a very international, multi-cultural environment. Living together, we could develop very close personal relationships and learn lots about each other's countries and lifestyles. It was very conducive to international romances as well. During my stay we had some exceptional multi-apartment parties.
