Avis sur Tohoku University

Tohoku University was founded in Sendai in 1907 as Tohoku Imperial University. Since its foundation, this university has been well-known for its open-door principle: it was the first imperial university to admit female students: it presented university extension lectures to the public before any other university; and further, it conferred degrees on foreign graduates as far back as 1911, which means that this university opened its door to foreign students earlier even than Tokyo University, the oldest imperial university.
