Learning Japanese is not easy, especially reading and writing. But it is possible, and there are a lot of language different language courses on many different levels.

Personal recommendation
I was assigned to this University so I had no choice. Sendai is boring as far as cities go and the univ. is very concentrated on Public Welfare and related fields (Psychology, geriatric care, sports medicine, etc.). If you're not great at Japanese and you're not in public welfare, steer clear.

Pack light; use your money wisely. Less restuarants = more travel money.

Almost complete unknown in Europe, this is considered an absolute top university in Japan. Ranked by Asiaweek as the #1 university in Asia+Australia in 1999!

The university runss a subsidized "International House" for exchnage students. If you can get a room there it will save you a considerable amount of money.
