If your flat doesn't already have a phone installed, then it will likely be exorbitant to do so. Likewise, mobile phones (credit) cost more here than in other Western European countries. Groceries are cheap in some places (Alcosto, Dia, Lidl, & sometimes Hipercor) and not in others (El Corte Ingles). Decent restaurants are often cheaper: look for the no-name menu del dia places behind Puerta del Sol.

Food:just not being able to cook limitates the shopping list. Tel:not having a private phone restricted the calls to really needed ones. Accomodation:living at home with my parrents, I do not have to pay anything. Nightlife:at home, I used only to study; but thanks to the Sapnish spirit of life, I started relaxing during night while being on Eramus. Travel:studying abroad is a unique chance to visit it in all needed details!

Daily transport is more expensive than in Vienna as there are no student tickkets. Housing is more expensive. As Madrid is famous for its nightlife you go out more often and spend more.

I send more because in the Netherlands I had a telephone contract which was cheaper, this is not possible here if you do not have residence permit and bankaccount, which takes months to get. Accomodation just is more expensive. ALso I spend more money because I feel that I have to make the most of being in Madrid so I don´t mind spending more to do fun things.

More of less was because the dollar is a lot stronger than the Spanish Peseta. And I´m from California where most prices are inflated anyways.

foos is cheaper, there is lots of competition. Accommodation was more expensive because normally i'm only in university for 24 weeks a year. I had to pay even for the weeks over christmas that i wasn't here. Nightlife goes on for the WHOLE night here, you just can't resist going out. I speny more on travel because normally i walk to my lectures, (Cambridge is not as big as Madrid!)
