don´t have to book accomodation from your home country, it's very easy to find shared apartments once you get here. student accomodation is outside the city on campus - quite far away for those who have class in town (law, economics, history, languages etc.)

I should have consulted a guide book about how to get from the airport to Alcala. Because I ended up in Madrid and then took a Taxi to Alcala, which was rather expensive.

The great thing about the Universidad de Alcala is that it is a relatively small university with a perfect program for Erasmus students. There are a lot of activities planned for Erasmus students, in particular very interesting trips to Granada, Santiago de Compostela, etc. Although the university is located in a small town, it is very close to Madrid. It is only a 40 minutes train ride. So one can easily take advantage of all the great museum, theaters and also nightlife in Madrid.

Get yourself out there. It was really easy for me to become more isolated from the people there and just hang out with Americans because there's *so many* Americans there. Go meet other people, meet other exchange students meet Spaniards.
