Housing was generally a lot cheaper in Spain than in England, and the facilities offered in the accommodation were very good on the whole. I tended to travel a lot more in Spain than I would have done in England, as I wanted to get out and explore more of the country. Therefore, I spent more on travel than I would have done in England.

I recommend keeping an eye on your bank balance online, since it is not possible to do so at the cash machines. Monitor roughly how much you spend every month and make sure this quantity doesn't increase significantly without any warning. If using an English cash card, take money out in large amounts (but always be careful), as a certain fee will be charged to your account every time you take money out. Opening a local bank account is quite complicated, so only do so if you really can't afford paying the fees charged on withdrawals from your home account.

because you want to make the most of your stay, so you spend more for travels because you want to check out the whole place, you spend more on nightlife (that's part of the Erasmus Stay! You meet a lot of people from different countries,...) About the housing, I don't pay a rent at home so I obviously spent more in Spain.

Living in Alcalá is much cheaper than living in Madrid and you can go to Madrid quite easily with public transports.

I spent more on food because I ate at restaurants often and more on housing because it included food and laundry service as well. With regards to nightlife and travel, I spent more because I travelled and went out more than I normally do at home.

For food, telephone and accommodation. I spent less, just because Spain is on average cheaper than Austria. For travel, I spent much more, because I took every opportunity to get to know the country and visit as many places and traditional festivals, as I could.
