The gaditano accent is possibly the most difficult to understand in Spain. Gaditanos tend to use a lot of slang, and professors at the university try their best to sound completely comprehensible. Sometimes, howevr, I struggles to keep up.

I chosed Spain, because I wanted to learn Spanish. Only from the courses of my university in Viena I never had learned that much. You can only learn a language when you live in that country. You learn how to use phrases, words of the daily live, the slang of the streets and many more things. For me it was very important to go to Spain and I am sure I will go to other countries as well.

In regard to my academic life and business spanish, the greatest learning effect was given though writing extensive essays and business projects, as for example our business proposal in entrepreneurship.
Slang and everyday usage of Spanish was rather limited to our free-time, to activities outside university and to the extend of making friendships with local students.

I was able to have classes taught only in Spanish and be surrounded by Spanish at all times in the day. It was easy to communicate with people after I had been there for a while.

Because there were a lot of Americans in our group, we tended to speak English amoung ourselves and it was hard to reach out to Spaniards in order to speak the local language.

Gaditano is a pretty strong dialect of Spanish, it takes some time to get used to it. You have to hang around with the local people if you want to be able to talk to them...
