It would have been good to know what to bring - if you go in the rainy season (I did) bring lots of water proof stuff, ziploc baggies, bug spray, sunscreen, bathing suit. You don't really need malaria pills (they are usually recommended). You really don't need much, so take out half the things in your bag after you've packed. Be prepared -- it is hot down there!!

I loved my experience in Golfito - it is an amazing place, absolutely beautiful! The most diverse wildlife, incredible ocean views, beaches. The method of teaching is so unique. It was the highlight of my college career!

Be open and ready for anything if you go to Golfito - explore all you can! The people of Costa Rica are amazing and the country itself is too. The south Pacific coast (where Golfito is) is the most untouched part of the country luckily so explore all you can while there (as a lot of the rest of the country is being spoiled by tourism). The Osa Peninsula is amazingly beautiful - check out Cabo Matapalo. Also Pavones on the other side of the Golfo Dulce. Enjoy! I wish I could do it again!!!

I think this university should keep up the good work!!
They could be more modernised. But compared to most other government-driven universities in Middle-America I suppose they are well ahead.
If the ecomical situation in the country gets better I guess they also will spend more money on the educational part.

Costa Rica is a country in the middle of middle-America. You have a lot of nice spots to see in their own country: White beaches on the caribean side (Limon, Puero Viejo), black beaches on the atlantic side (Puntarenas, Jaco, Quepos etc), vulcanos (Arenal) etc.
While you're in CR you should also take a trip to the neighbour-countries. I recomand especially a Island in Hoduras on the caribean side called Roatan. The best diving spot I've ever visited!!
Helpful advices: Keep your belongings very close you... There are a lot of thieves in these areas..

La educación recibida en la Universidad de Costa Rica fue de mucha exigencia en cada materia, siempre se esperaba lo mejor. Es una institución enfocada en la investigación y por ello hay muchos centros de investigación donde se puede trabajar para crecer profesionalmente. Creo que falta mayor infraestructura y equipos para poder realizar un trabajo más independiente en los cursos y así se pueda aprender de los equipos (al menos en mi carrera de química).

Al ser la primera universidad de Costa Rica luego de las reformas de la segunda República, la UCR se transformó en el pilar de la educación costarricense. Al desempeñarme durante 6 años en esta institución, me encuentro agradecido por la calidad de educación y los profesionales que me han ayudado a formarme profesionalmente.

costa rica is quite americanized, watch out for big macs, but other than that, watch the news daily and talk about futbol, and you will get along just fine
