My university courses enabled me to improve my listening skills and learn academic language. Making friends with local people meant that my spoken language skills improved very quickly.

Since there were virtually no Dutch people communication in Spanish was necessary. With or without preparation, Spanish is an easy languag to learn, although academic Spanish is something else than talking about football in a bar.

I was unaware that the course was aimed towards American Student Programmes therefore due to the number of English speaking students i have found it difficult to speak as much Spanish as i would have hoped.

I started in DCU, Ireland with no Spanish at all and am about to finish now with proficient Spanish, this is largely due to the year abroad.

watching TV and talking to the local population helped me a lot. Besides, after the semester, I've lived one month in a Colombian family

Most people there didnt speak english so that was a big help as regards learning spanosh. However the amount of english speaking students worked against this
