Personal spending habits
Travelling within Spain could be more expensive rather to travel abroad (eg. Travel from Madrid to Cordova by AVE -train- is more than 100 euros round trip. Travelling from Valladolid to Charleroi -flying- was 38 euros round trip).

Reading the "small letters" in the contracts. Spanish sometimes can´t get along with maths and errors may occur in their benefit.

If you're there to get your buzz on (and it's a definately college city, so who isn't?), Jacko's, just outside Plaza Mayor had liter mixed drinks for under 700 ptas. (less than $4) and liter drafts for about 200 ptas. Camelot or the Irish Rover were the best dance clubs. Be sure to take advantage of the people out on the streets giving away coupons, you can't miss them and usually the deals are "buy 1 drink, get 1 free" or "1st drink free".

I wish I had known...
I might not have picked a program with class five days a week. This didn't leave much time for travel.

Travel in groups for safety reasons. Living in a dorm is fun but students will learn less of the foreign language.

Academic
Course recommendations
if speaking the language is your priority then avoid spanish cultural courses, such as cinema as there are bound to be lots of international students. literature courses still have quite a few foreign students but are generally well taught and i would recommend if that interests.
