Personal spending habits
Food expense was included in my rent and so I was provided room & food everyday of the week for 129euro. Using a cell phone there was more expensive because i used a SIM card (prepaid card) instead of having yearly plans like in the United States. Airflights within Europe are offered at much cheaper prices than in the U.S. The nightlife in Salamanca is considerably longer, which caused me to spend more money (and the exchange rate).

I usually went to read the newspaper at Erasmus Cafe during the afternoon (siesta time!). At night what I enjoyed most was to be at my friends' places, but I also enjoyed International Nights a lot at Daniel's, Erasmus Night at Posada and Hip Hop nights at Irish Rover. The University used to have excellent photography exhibitions every week (besides they were free) and I also used to go to the Cultural Centre events once in a while

Housing
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
you can eusily get in contact with new people (if room exchange means to share a house with other students, of which there are 7000 in Salamanca)

all the rooms i saw were pretty small. not all kitchens were clean. but if you take your time you will surele find something, with internet too, within of 3 or 5 days.dont expect luxuri, because, the rooms are frequently used by new students, who do not stay longer than a year in salamanca

Travel tips: look for cheap flights to near cities. You really have to as Salamanca does not have an airport.
Once there finding accomodation is not difficult. If you do not find an appartment immediately, you can stay in a hostel for a while, at a cost of about 10 to 12 euros per night.
Discover the city to find the special spots.

One piece of advice is try to spend as much time with people from the host country as possible and avoid people from your home country--you'll learn a lot more that way. I had a wonderful time and wish I could have stayed there longer. By far it was the best year of my life!
