I wish I had known...
I wish I had known what the living situation was going to be like. I loved my roommates very much, but I think that all of us would agree that we would have benefited from more interaction with local people.

I was actually quite pleased with this university. They put a lot of emphasis on the intellectual, they take their studies seriously. B.A. has a rich literary history and the USAL takes advantage of that. Also the professors for the most part were very helpful and interesting and imformative.

Hmmm,I think you could go just about anywhere and if you spend enough time, you grow to love it, in whatever way you can. I love the city of Buenos Aires, it is alive and vibrant and crumbling and decadent and brilliantly haughty yet inviting. Man, its a strange place and it makes you ache with weird loving for it. I just say go there, and spend as much time as you can digging right down into it.

One can easily meet other exchange students through the foreign office at school. There are activities and in the Spanish class you will meet people in the same situation. Very important: The exchange program that some universities have with Universidad del Salvador= inform whether they have it with your school or whether they can build it up. In that case you will have housing arranged, food in the cantine and maybe a grant. Makes things a lot easier.

You should be independent and easily to meet people. Because the local students do not interact that much with exchangers. You will have to contact people. The exchange students are quite open-minded and easily to access.

Learn the language in advance. Most of your environments only speaks spanish. Travel as much as you can. There are plenty of things to see. I went to Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru and Chile. Bolivia and Peru are poor but landscape is beautiful.

My favorite place to go at night was a coffe shop around the corner from our apartment called La Farola. It was on the calle Santa Fe, which is a very busy street, and we would go in and get cafe con leche y dos media lunas and sit and look out on the street for hours. For actual nightlife stuff, surprisingly we mostly ende up going to other exchange peoples apartments and listening to music and drinking cheap wine and beer. None of had much money and B.A. is a pretty expensive dance club kind of town. We did often go to the Rincon Dominicana to dance salsa. Unfortunately, they closed down at the end of our stay, due to the economic instability that was just beginning to crash down.

Universidad del Salvador is one of the 3 bigest private Unis in Argentina. Academically is not wow!!! but it's a friendly uni and the students (middle-class) are nice. I won't recommend this uni if you study politics, law or economics. Then go to UBA or BELGRANO, wich are stronger.
