I didn't expect the room to be so expensive.
The general rule that products in big stores are cheaper does not apply! Most of the time they are equal and not worth the time to go out all the way to the superstores.

don't be surprised over the rather high rents.(buy the telephone card of TMN they have free sms),make yourself a monthly bus+metro ticket, don't buy beer in center of bairro alto(diferrence between prices in bars could be 1eur)
