Housing is just more expensive, while in Oslo you can find an apartment for 400euros and a bit pluss, I feel luckey to find a central appartment for 500euros here... Telephone was more expensive because I use a refill card here while back home I have a contract, but still the prices on calls are higher..

Use www.secondamano.it and www.ebay.it for what it is worth!! Do you need anything from AC, matress, sofa to clothes they have it! If you need to go to IKEA, you can rent a van there, cost you about 30euros and you can use it for 2hours. Want to rent car cheap to give for short trips, www.sixti.it, 10euros per day (max100km) in a Fiat Punto!!

I was traveling much more and going out much more in Milan than in LA, so my expenses went up a bit more. But the life of an international student found many situations of frugality in travel and nightlife.

Bancomat saves the day in so many places - you have no problems getting money. Setting up a bank account - that is not fun and a bit difficult. The bureaucracy in Italy can be a bit debilitating at times, but that is the way it goes. With the other parts of the lifestyle, it balances out.

Bank loan hiccups from Bocconi scheme. If you have friends with cars, buy food from out of town hypermarkets. Also, accomodation is really expensive if you're easily lured by the convenience of Bocconi housing ads - finding housing in secondamano will be cheaper, although it may feel more isolated.

The prices of international (non-Italian) food are higher here. Housing is much much more expensive here, and I live with my parents at home anyway.

Open a bank account and transfer the money you think you'll need at the beginning. This will save you the costs of taking money out at the atm, which only lets you take out 250euro per atm machine per day.

nightlife and housing is definitely much more expensive in milan (rents are most expensive in all of europe) - travelled a lot, so spent more on that (train tickets are cheaper than in austria!)

life in milan is expensive! buy at supermarkets outside the centre, things are considerably cheaper there
