Prices are just lower in general, especially for food. Nightlife is unaffordable though... The best way to get alcohol is to buy it in supermarket and socialize at friends's place...

You have to be aware you're entitled for housing benefit to pay your rent. Some people get even more money than necessary for their rent!

Personal recommendation
If you're looking to assimilate as much as possible into the French culture including language aquisition I highly recommend attending a university that is NOT in an international city such as Paris. This will allow you much more exposure into the culture and permit you to submerse yourself into the culture and a higher level. Lyon is a distant second largest city in France and yet just as cosmopolitan as Paris.

I spent more on most those categories because I simply do not pay for any of those things when I am home. I tend stay home at night and on the weekends, I don't travel, and my parents provide me with housing and food. This experience for me was a great way to do a lot of things that I normally don't do and a great way for me to learn some financial responsibility while asserting my independence.

Do not travel to France with travelers checks or buy euros from the US. The best thing to do is to travel with is take cash out using an ATM. You save a lot on the exchange rates that way.

Le campus est vraiment moderne, de plus, il ne manque pas d'installation sportives ou encore un restaurant assez bon.

There is a part of Lyon called "vieux Lyon", that is the old part of the city. It is a nice area to go to both during the day and at night. I must say that at night it was really a charming place with the old streets, welcoming cafes and pubs. This was definetely the area where we spent most of our night life.
