Course recommendations
Some of the courses don't have a separate discussion section where students dive deeper into the material so as a foreign student, lectures were a bit hard to understand.

Most of the courses I took had one final grade, and as a foreign student, it is hard to have a grade based solely on one final exam. Also, it can be hard to make friends in class because all French students take the same classes in their major and form friendships beginning in their first year of university.

The first half of the year I amde the mistake of spemnding too much time with other Americans. It really is very important to make the effort and get to know otehr international students and the locals. It really does change what it will mean for you to study abroad in France.

Take a course in your native language, just to see how it's done in another country. You'll probably make a lot of friends too.

In France particularly, make every effort to speak and coverse with others. It's hard at first, but everybody appreciates it when somebody tries. Also, invite someone to go out for a cup of coffee.

I found the university very unorganised -so go in with a cool head and be prepared for no one to know what is going on. My main suggestion would be to have less paper work and to be more organised.

Courses are divided into two categories: CM and TD. The attendance to the TDs is compulsory.

Teachers should explain a little more the organisation of classes and above all, the organisation of exams (how many, when, what percentage on the final mark). They often don't know it till the week before the exam, and it's really annoying. The organisation of French university (non only Lyon's!) is very high-school-like. I didn't like it.
