Academic
Course recommendations
The university system at French grandes écoles is very rigid. I'd say it's an interesting experience for a year, and you definitely get to learn a lot of facts. However, French students at this stage of their university studies are not encouraged to discuss issues and problems, but to learn a lot of facts by heart. Coming from an university system which is opposite, I had problems adapting first - even though I am half french!

Personal comments
Encourage french students to study a year abroad, so that some of them become more open-minded and loose a bit of their elitist attitude at Sciences Po. But I have to say all of my French friends are very open-minded!

Studying at IEP, expecially International Relations, is an excellent opportunity as in Strasburg you may also stay in close contact with the European Institutions.

Strasbourg is a lovely little town, but if you come from a big city after a while it gets a little too small, so plan to travel and visit the beautiful surroundings and the nearby Germany and Belgium. If you hate cloudy climates, don't go to Strasbourg !

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Be prepared to having to learn a lot of facts by heart! Don't expect too have contact with all french students, because they are simply too busy studying, and they have a lot of academic pressure.

Even though Sciences Po Strasbourg was a good experience, I would recommend studying at Sciences Po Paris, because I know that students there are more open-minded, and also much more involved with extra-curricular activities.
