I travel alot more here in Europe than at home because I am busier at home in school. also, the phone was much more expensive here because my mother pays for it in the states. I spend less on food here because it is cheaper and I live in SF in the states which has outrageously high living costs including things like rent.

Use discount fliers when going out and don´t drink too much when you go out. Get a bottle of cava which can be as cheap as 2 € if you want to do a littkle pre going out socializing. Sometimes sitting at a cafe can be just as fun as going out and alot cheaper. Travelling is expensive but overall I find no real surprises. Shopping is also a big bank account killer.

Well, the occasions to party in Barcelona are numerous, and you can't refuse ! It's the perfect way to meet people, talk and improve your language skills. I had no telephone in my appartment, so I had to call from a telephone booth which is rather expensive.
Since I was leaving with my parents before going to BCN, and that my parents paid my rent for my BCN appartment, the question was not easy to answer.

mobile phone plans are awful in barcelona when comparing to portugal. my housing arrangement was a bit expensive, but it is easy to find cheaper ones if you take care of that sooner than later

First and foremost, the conversion of American dollars to euros results in Europe being a more expensive place to live.
