Some knowledge of catalan is very useful. Initial courses of catalan are free of charge. There are some grants for international students, I recommend to apply to all. At the internet page of University you can find a lot of useful information.

Barcelona is in Catalonia, which is not Spain. 50% of the classes are in Catalan which sounds like a mixture between French, Italian and Spanish. Foreign students don't generally learn Catalan during their stay.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because I like living among natives. Campus here is pretty remote, takes too much time to get to university.

For the University in itself, in fact, it is not that easy as it is very difficult to get catalan friends inside the university! But generally, people are nice! It is just a question of communication and adaptability!

Great city, different culture (Catalan culture!), a bit hard to get to know some locals...but very very nice anyway!
