Housing
Type of housing: shared flat
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: I wouldn't depend on habitat joven anymore
Why?
I would choose a shared flat again, because it's pretty social and you can adapt easier to a new life - especially in the beginning. I wouldn't rent the flat through the same organisation (habitat joven) I did - because you have to fullfill the contract and that restricts you in a lot of way. I would look for a flat myself next time - but it is necessary (more or less) to speak a good level of spanish. My best choice of area would be the district gracia - it's filled with young people - and relaxed.

Barcelona is a great place to study and enjoy life. I would certainly recommend it to anybody looking to study abroad, there is a great mix of city life, sea, mountains and culture that you would struggle to find anywhere else!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
We are living with four people of different backgrounds in one house, it is really interesting what you can learn from the people with who you are living with. But it also nice that it isn´t to crowded, you have some privacy in the appartment.

In general it is ok, no complaints. They only have to install new computers, because for the students it is impossible to connect to the internet in a normal way. So it also impossible to arrange formal and informal things by means of a computer at the university.

I wish I had known...
It is difficult to adapt to a different culture. If i had known this in advance, i would have taken a language course in order to know to language better and to adapt easier.

This is a traditional university, and not the only one in Barcelona, if you want to do a lot of project work, you better choose another uni.

The University was great, but if you are going to learn Spanish you might want to go to Granada or Madrid. It's just tough to get the classes you want when they are given in Catalan. I had originally been an Art major, with a minor in Spanish. But once in Barcelona I pretty much focused on Spanish.

If you are in Spain, live it up! Talk to the people. They LOVE to talk, but don't think they are bickering with you if you find yourself in a heated discussion. They just simply love to tell you what they think and then listen to your response. Travel as much as you can. It is easy to get around on the trains and busses.
I loved my experience. I would suggest it to anyone who is given the opportunity. The only people who did not enjoy it were those who had romantic interests back home and those who did not care to learn about the culture and the language(s).
