Because I prefered to live in the centre of the city and my campus was far away.

Why?
Because you are independent and you are the one who choose what suits you. However, for the students who are at their first years of study or international exchange students it is much better to have accomodation at a campus, you can learn a lot more and enjoy other countries cultures much easier and mych deeper than if you live on your own.

I would love to stay with a family, but if I were to go back now I would be with my husband. We would most likely be more comfortable in our own flat.

Although we did have to find our own lodging, the program coordinators did give us a list of potential host families. (Don't know if this is what this question was looking for.)
