The UvA Dormitory at Sarphatistraat 145 is within 5 min walking distance from the Economics Faculty buildings and right above the super market with extended opening hours. The whole area is very picturesque. You can relax in the Osterpark, go to the Windmill or lay at the bank of canals surrounding the place. Sarphatistraat is rather peaceful part of the city located next to the relaxed Plantage district where one can find the Amsterdam ZOO and Botanical Garden with cozy restaurants and cafes. It is worth to mention that Administration of the Dormitory "De Key" provided tenants with all washing equipment free of charge. The kitchen in the apartments is fully equipped. And if you are planning to use palnes while in Amsterdam you will soon discover that to get to the Schiphol airport simply take the subway line to the Wespeerplein Station (10 min within walking distance from the Dormitory). You will also Highly Recommended!

I could say that studying in Amsterdam was one of the most exciting experiences in my life. I would have loved to stay there longer, but my grant did not allow me that. Anyway, I did learn a lot of practical things. Not only about journalism but also about ways of studying, living in Europe, getting in touch with people from everywhere, etc. Obviously, improving your english level is also a main point, and you can achieve it easily because you don't even realise that you are becoming more fluent in this language. It happens just as a natural thing, which is great!

The University doesn't take care of it directly, they put you in contact with a non-profit housing company which is pretty efficient and provides wonderful accomodation.
