Study abroad is, overall a great experience and I thoroughly recommend giving it a go, just not in Oslo!

A big problem in Norway is that English is everywhere and there is little interaction with Norwegian students as internationals all live together, I wanted total immersion, almost impossible ,I«m afraid.

Bring as much as possible with you if you want to save money. Things like chewing gum and chocolate cost three times the UK price.

Accomodation at Oslo takes the form of self catering appartments shared with 6 or 7 others. This can be fine if you live with nice clean people, horrid if you don«t. One bad point is that all the internationals are put together and ther is very little mixing with Norwegians. The whole experience is not at all like that of British halls of residence, or living on campus in the States.

Oslo isn«t exactly the party capital of the world. Chateau Neuf is the main student union type place although it isn«t anything to write home about. Student parties take place in most faculties, often in the foyer! Surreal, but fun if you are in the mood. A big drawback to social life in Oslo is that many, in fact most bars, pubs and clubs have rather high age limits; 25 in some places at the weekend. Lots of people go to So What? DON«T! It«s horrible!
