Our housing facilities were really good. Quite newly built halls, with nice big kitchen, ensuite facilities in every room, plus internet access for a small extra-charge. Unfortunately, most of the downloads blocked for security reasons. Nice quiet location in the hills but also main draw-back was that is was about 30-40 mins bus ride to the town centre. Since accommodation managed by independent housing agency very good service by the on-campus accommodation office.

Because of have lived before in England, and my instruction language in the NL was also English I didn't really occur bigger problems. But being in a native speaker environment offers more opportunities to improve syntax, vocabulary and pronounciation.

When trying to get a mobile phone contract or a bank account - even though you are coming from a EU country - lie and tell them you are living in the UK for 3 years already, otherwise almost impossible to be eligible for phone companies and banks!

In general things were more expensive because of the exchange rate between the euro and the pound. But on the other hand since Amsterdam is a quite expensive city as well, things like food and nightlife were not much more expensive. The most expensive item in the UK was the rent which was still very high even though I stayed in student halls.
