If returning, I would choose: private flat
Why?
I lived in a residence from university during my three first weeks .They pretend me to force to stand there during all the year, but the conditions were not the ones stipulated. I had some problems to move out from there. It was close to Uni, but more expensive, noisy, unsafe and it was never so cosy as to live in a private flat, as I did afterwards.

I rent a flat by a property agency,it was great. I had good flatemates,and nice and cheap flat in the city centre. It was old, but the agency fixed everything. My stay in the residence from university was quite uncomfortable: expensive, fire alarms every 15 days, I just had a very small room and not enough space.

the flat was really good for facilities and location. it also gives the opportunity to meet other students from all over the world. it's confortable and you don't need to think about bills and other things. the only problem is the the university accomodation are quite expensive.
