Personal spending habits
Probably because of the exchange rate. From US to GBP is terribly high for Americans. When we spent 5 pounds, we spent 10 dollars at home from our bank accounts.

Go to the grocery store rather than eat out. It saves you costs on your food, and you can actually make what you like. As for Internet--only stay on for about an hour or two so you're internet cafe costs do not overwhelm you. Experience more outside than staying inside on the internet!

am currently working at the Hilton hotel at Syon park London in the capacity of restaurant and events. Within the hotel we hold events for weddings, private parties, conferences etc. My duty for these would focus on serving drinks and canopies, interacting with guests and assuring everyone is enjoying their experience. We focus mainly on customer service and we like to create special experiences for each person and pay special attention to dietary, mobility or any of requirements guests may need.

Overall
The beauty of studying for an undergraduate degree at Birkbeck College is that all lessons start after 6pm.
This allows you to hold down a full time job whilst studying

We loved going to Churchill Arms, a pub near the Notting Hill Gate tube station. It was also close to Kensington High Street. The pub had amazing Thai food and the atmoshphere was very relaxed. Many people went there after work it seemed. We liked the Sports Cafe in London for getting American beer and watching sports. We loved all the club and bars around Picadilly, Leister Square, and Covent Garden. We took in alot of musicals and plays as well. They were all amazing, especially Mama Mia!!

I wish I had known...
Planned more traveling before hand. I would have liked to see many more places. But that just gives me more room to travel more, now that my college career is over.

Personal recommendation
The University premises and cafeteria were wonderful. Even though we had American teachers, I still enjoyed our stay at an international university.

Keep in touch with family members, but don't let things/feelings/emotions/drama from home get in the way of your international experience. This experience is for YOU!

Course recommendations
I took an international business course that was great. I also took a social psychology class and two classes dealing with the history of London and the arts and architecture in London. The two classes on London were great because I got to see so many parts of the city I never would have gone to otherwise. I am very knowledgeable about the city, it's history and culture now.
