We loved going to Churchill Arms, a pub near the Notting Hill Gate tube station. It was also close to Kensington High Street. The pub had amazing Thai food and the atmoshphere was very relaxed. Many people went there after work it seemed. We liked the Sports Cafe in London for getting American beer and watching sports. We loved all the club and bars around Picadilly, Leister Square, and Covent Garden. We took in alot of musicals and plays as well. They were all amazing, especially Mama Mia!!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Our flat was located in Notting Hill and was in the most amazing location. It was really close to the Notting Hill Gate tube station and was close to many restaurants and pubs. Not only that, but the street our flat was located on was gorgeous. I was in awe living there. It was so surreal. The inside of the flat was large and there was alot of living space. I shared a room with two other girls and about 35 guys and girls lived in the flat. It was a wonderful experience and I would not choose to do the same thing again.

The flat was gorgeous and in a great location, Notting Hill, in central London. We had the Notting Hill Gate tube station very close and alot of restaurants and pubs. The nightlife was great as well. The inside of the flat was great too and there was alot of room. I had a very spacious room and there was tons of storage places. It was awesome :)

Personal spending habits
We went out a lot to see the city. We ate at tons of cool restaurants. We also travelled extensively around Europe so we spent more money eating out and going out in those countries.

No surprises really...you go to London expecting to pay alot. It's just an expensive city. Try not to eat out too much. You can save money by staying in and cooking.

Course recommendations
I took an international business course that was great. I also took a social psychology class and two classes dealing with the history of London and the arts and architecture in London. The two classes on London were great because I got to see so many parts of the city I never would have gone to otherwise. I am very knowledgeable about the city, it's history and culture now.

I wish I had known...
That it does not rain as much as people say it does in London...the weather was great! Also I wish I had known to bring my laptop. It would have been more convenient. But there are internet cafes everywhere so getting online was never a problem. It was also very cheap to get online.

Personal recommendation
Birkbeck was great because it was located in Bloomsbury in London, where alot of other universities were located so there were a ton of students in the area. The classes were great and we got to tour London to the fullest. I wish I could have taken even more classes or stayed longer. They were very interesting and tied into the study abroad experience.
